A cluster with 9600 Nvidia A100 sold on eBay for nearly $60 million

The American company Core 4 Solutions listed a used cluster on eBay for $59.7 million. It includes 300 server racks with 9600 Nvidia A100, 4200 AMD EPYC processors, and approximately 1.4 PB of RAM. Next-day delivery would have cost the buyer only $50.

According to Tom’s Hardware, the equipment was previously used in the cloud infrastructure of a major provider. Each rack includes 32 Nvidia A100 accelerators with 40 GB of memory, 14 AMD EPYC Rome processors with 64 cores, and 4.6 TB of DDR4. In total, the cluster has 268,800 processor cores.

The seller claims that all ZT A100 computing racks are fully operational and suitable for AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing tasks. The warranty is 30 days, but the purchase cannot be returned.

The listing offered two options for receipt: pickup in Minnesota or free FedEx Ground delivery; two-day delivery for $25, next-day delivery for $50. Nvidia A100 and AMD EPYC Rome belong to previous generations of server equipment but are still suitable for many AI tasks. However, for $59.7 million, the buyer would receive not only computing power but also 300 racks that still need to be placed and powered.

The listing has already been removed.
