The Coinbase exchange sent users a push notification with the outcome of the Norway vs. Brazil match before it started. The AI system in the "Trends" section, which generates news summaries for Kalshi’s prediction markets, reported that Norway won 3-2 and Erling Holland scored two goals. At the time of the notification, the game had not yet started.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and consumer product chief Max Brantsburg responded quickly: the platform fixed the bug and updated systems to prevent a repeat of the incident. The final score of the match was 2:1 in favor of Norway, although Holland did secure a double. Brantsburg joked, "AI may have known something we didn’t."

The fake news appeared as part of Coinbase’s "Everything Exchange" strategy, integrating Kalshi data to generate content. The incident occurred against a background of active AI implementation in exchange products: in May, the company reduced its staff by 14% to optimize costs, and in June introduced Coinbase for Agents - a service for connecting digital assistants to retail accounts.
