Cyprus is strengthening its position in the field of artificial intelligence. The Pharos-CY project has been approved by the country's Department of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking as part of the AI Factory Antennas initiative. The republic is now preparing to integrate with the Greek AI factory Pharos.

According to Deputy Minister Nikodimos Damianou, the creation of the AI Factory will be a key element of Cyprus' digital transformation. The platform will bring together participants in the innovation ecosystem and provide them with access to the high-performance computing resources needed to develop AI solutions. The system will be linked to the Greek Pharos infrastructure, which operates on the basis of GRNET, and will provide access to the Daedalus supercomputer.

At the same time, Cyprus is developing its own computing center in partnership with NVIDIA. Pharos-CY focuses on creating reliable AI solutions with high added value in the fields of healthcare, sustainable development, energy, culture, and language. Particular attention is paid to the development and optimization of large language models for the Greek language and cultural context.
