D-Wave Accelerates Solution Finding in Stride in Individual Tests

On November 4, 2026, D-Wave Quantum introduced an update to the hybrid optimizer Stride. According to the company's test results, in one task, the program found a higher quality solution in 15 seconds, whereas the previous version took 120 seconds. This does not imply an eightfold acceleration of all computations.
How the Updated Stride Works
Stride combines quantum annealing computations with classical algorithms. It is designed for optimization tasks where the best option must be chosen among many combinations, such as constructing a delivery route or distributing operations on a production line.
The updated algorithm is available through the cloud service Leap. Users do not need to purchase their own quantum equipment: tasks are transmitted to D-Wave's computing systems via the internet.
What the Tests Showed
In a traveling salesman problem test with up to 10,000 points, the average deviation of the found route from the proven optimum was 0.02% in 15 seconds. With the same runtime, the result was more than 200 times closer to the optimum than the previous Stride.
For tasks with more than 10,000 points, the average deviation was 3.8% in 120 seconds. According to D-Wave, this is more than 500 times less deviation from the optimum compared to the previous version in the same timeframe. The coefficients 200 and 500 characterize the quality of the solution, not the acceleration of the program.
In a separate test of balancing a simple assembly line, the updated Stride found a better solution in 15 seconds than the previous version did in 120 seconds. All the provided metrics are based on the company's own tests and do not confirm similar advantages in any real-world conditions.
Why the Training Was Launched
Simultaneously, D-Wave launched the Applied Quantum Optimization program consisting of three courses. Developers are trained to find suitable tasks, create mathematical models, and build applications on Stride. Access to Leap and specialist consultations are provided for individual courses.
For enterprises, potential application areas include logistics, production planning, and resource allocation. However, the cost of the update, company savings, and revenue growth from the new Stride are not disclosed. The practical value will be shown by the results of implementation on real tasks and comparison with classical alternatives.
