Deutsche Bank Expands Crypto Custody Services in Asia

Deutsche Bank plans to introduce cryptocurrency custody services to the Asian market in 2027 and launch them in Germany in the coming weeks. This was reported to Reuters by the co-head of the corporate bank, Podobnik. The bank will manage clients' wallets and their private keys.

Initially, the service will support Bitcoin, Ether, and stablecoins USDC, EURC, and EURAU. In addition, Deutsche Bank plans stablecoin conversion, tokenized deposits, and services for issuing digital bonds and other securities on the blockchain. These steps are part of a strategy to achieve approximately 8% annual revenue growth for the corporate bank from 2025 to 2028.

The launch in Germany is subject to regulatory approval. According to the interim register of the European Securities and Markets Authority, on October 12, the bank received authorization from the German regulator BaFin under MiCA rules.

The expansion into Asia continues the service's reach beyond Europe: banks are striving to play a larger role in managing digital assets for institutional clients. Deutsche Bank has been working on custody plans with Bitpanda and Taurus and joins competitors such as Standard Chartered and BBVA, which already offer cryptocurrency custody services.

For institutional clients in Asia, this could provide access to crypto services through a major global bank without the need to manage wallets and private keys independently. Which specific Asian markets will be first is not specified.
