Shares of telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom showed steady growth of 5.9%, reaching 28.95 euros. The reason for the positive dynamics was the publication of financial results for the second quarter and the first half of 2026, which fully met investors' expectations. The financial statements showed earnings per share at 0.56 euros, which is about 4% higher than in the same period last year. The company's revenue also showed steady growth, increasing by 4.5% year-on-year.
The most important growth catalyst was the simultaneous announcement of a significant expansion of the share buyback program. The total authorized amount of the program for 2026 has been increased to 5 billion euros by adding an additional 3 billion. New buybacks are planned until December of this year. This step is seen by the market as a powerful signal of management's confidence in the fair valuation of the company and is aimed at supporting earnings per share. Earlier, at the end of June, the purchase of securities by a member of the board of directors near a 52-week low already indicated such optimism.
It is noteworthy that the growth of Deutsche Telekom quotes was due solely to corporate factors. The broad market, including the Italian FTSE MIB index, did not provide macroeconomic support, remaining multidirectional. Key industry competitors such as Vodafone, Telefónica and Orange did not generate comparable positive news. Thus, the combination of quarterly reports that exceeded expectations, a large-scale share buyback program and continued operational momentum from the American division of T-Mobile US provided one of the strongest one-day price movements in recent months, returning them to the middle of the annual trading range from a low of 23.55 euros.
