Egypt Restores 815 Feddans of Land in Alamein Worth Over 20 Billion Egyptian Pounds

The Egyptian government has reclaimed over 815 feddans of land in the new city of Alamein on the Mediterranean coast. The reclamation took place from January to October 2026, with the deal amounting to over 20 billion Egyptian pounds (approximately $357 million). This information was confirmed by an unnamed government source. The majority of the land is concentrated in the financial and business center area, which includes downtown buildings behind the international coastal road. The Egyptian government plans to use the proceeds from the sale of the reclaimed lands to fund 39 new smart cities that are under development across the country. The sale of these lands is expected to attract investments for the construction of the necessary infrastructure for these cities.
Additionally, the authorities are preparing the infrastructure design on the reclaimed lands to ready them for re-offering to investors in 2027 and 2028. Between 2022 and 2024, the Egyptian Ministry of Housing provided an opportunity for legal entities and private owners to apply for the legalization of their lands in the southern part of the coastal road. This indicates that the state is actively working on improving legal regulations and simplifying the land ownership process.
The land reclamation is occurring amidst the expansion of major tourist and residential projects on Egypt's northwest coast. For instance, in February 2024, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates signed an investment agreement worth $35 billion to develop the region. As part of this agreement, a major land development project was launched, which includes the construction of residential and tourist infrastructure. This event confirms the growing interest in this part of the country, where large investment plans prevail. Thus, the land reclamation in Alamein not only opens new opportunities for investors but also contributes to the economic development of the region, which in turn will help transform Egypt's northwest coast into a full-fledged attraction center for tourists and investments throughout the year. In line with the set goals, Egypt aims to become an attractive point for long-term investments and development.
