According to Elon Musk's neural network Grok, the funds of cryptocurrency holders are not currently under any direct threat. The bot responded this way when asked to explain Vitalik Buterin's post about the risks of AI to cryptography. The post was complex, and investor Lark Davis asked Grok to explain in simple terms whether the funds are in danger and if any action is needed.
According to the neural network, Buterin is not urging people to panic and urgently change wallets. There is no direct risk at the moment. The concerns are related to the fact that AI will accelerate mathematical discoveries, which could weaken some cryptographic systems; the ECDSA signature algorithm might be cracked earlier than expected. Grok advises keeping funds on addresses from which no transactions have been sent yet, but to transfer money cautiously. According to him, Buterin has lost more due to unsuccessful migrations than from all hacks combined.
Previously, it was believed that elliptic curves would be broken, while hashes would remain intact. Now, Buterin suggests that within two years, AI could seriously undermine the practical resilience of systems. He is most concerned about ML-DSA and FHE. Ethereum has been moving towards hash-only solutions for about a year: the lean Ethereum roadmap does not include lattices, ML-DSA, and Falcon, and signatures are built on WOTS or SPHINCS. It's more complicated with public key encryption – it's needed for messaging, Tor, VPN, and website access; Buterin advises increasing key sizes by about 10 times. He is not worried about hashes at the moment: if concerns grow, rounds will be added first.
