The Ethereum ecosystem announced the launch of Ethlabs, an independent non-profit research laboratory that will focus on developing core protocol, infrastructure and products for the network. The organization’s main mission is to make Ethereum a global proxy level in the digital economy, where users, institutions and autonomous agents can interact without intermediaries. Ethlabs plans to work at the interface of technical protocol improvements and real ecosystem needs, collaborating with dApps developers, L2-networks and infrastructure companies.

The core principles of the laboratory included supporting Ethereum’s neutrality, developing the asset as a programmable means of value preservation, strengthening the DeFi ecosystem, and promoting widespread adoption of technology. Community requests will be transformed into work on technical standards, infrastructure solutions and new products. Ethlabs also emphasizes its independence, viewing itself as one of the nodes of a larger decentralized ecosystem.

The initiative has already been supported by BitMine, SharpLink, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, SNZ Holding, and more than 50 industry representatives. The launch of Ethlabs comes against a backdrop of intense discussions about long-term financing for the development of Ethereum, following statements by former employees of the Ethereum Foundation about the need to find new models to support research. The laboratory plans to form a compact team of highly qualified specialists to work on critical areas of protocol development.
