The crypto trading card platform Fantasy.top announced it will close after over two years. The co-founder cited a structural incompatibility: building cryptocurrency mechanics on top of a Trading Card Game (TCG) model, which has consistently failed in projects like TopShot and SoRare.

“We tried to layer crypto onto a model that was never designed for it. Every crypto TCG has failed. This is structural, not a coincidence,” wrote Kipit. Legacy trading card value attracts gamers, whereas crypto TCGs attract investors, forcing teams to manage token economics rather than the game itself.

Fantasy.top confirmed that all pre-seed and seed investors will be fully reimbursed — “one dollar back for every dollar invested” — since the platform was fully self-funded. The closure follows criticism of dropped core gameplay features and speculative token launches.
