The Dutch financial institute ABN AMRO has officially announced a strategic partnership with the French company Mistral AI, specializing in the development of generative artificial intelligence models. Under this agreement, the companies intend to jointly create and implement specialized AI solutions designed to optimize the bank's internal business processes. The key priorities of cooperation are ensuring the maximum level of protection of confidential data, strict compliance with the regulatory requirements of the European Union, as well as the integration of new technological tools into the daily work environment of financial institution employees.

This partnership reflects a broader strategic trend in the European financial sector aimed at strengthening technological sovereignty. ABN AMRO's management expects that cooperation with a European developer will significantly reduce the bank's operational dependence on large non-European technology suppliers dominating the generative artificial intelligence market. The use of solutions developed and deployed in the EU jurisdiction provides financial institutions with additional guarantees of compliance with the GDPR regulations and the norms of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) that are being prepared for full application.

The introduction of generative models in the banking sector requires a particularly careful approach to the architecture of the systems. Since financial institutions process large amounts of sensitive information, including personal customer data and trade secrets, using cloud services located outside of Europe carries increased regulatory risks. The partnership with Mistral AI involves the possibility of using models that can be deployed in secure on-premise infrastructures or in certified European cloud environments. This allows the bank to maintain full control over data flows and minimize the risks of unauthorized access or information leaks.

It is expected that the solutions being developed will be used to automate routine tasks such as processing internal documentation, generating reports, supporting employees in customer service, and analyzing large amounts of structured and unstructured data. The integration of AI tools into work processes is aimed at improving overall operational efficiency and reducing staff time spent on administrative functions. At the same time, the emphasis is on the fact that artificial intelligence acts as an assistant, augmenting human capabilities, rather than replacing employees.
