Google Introduces Gemini 4 Carbon – The Company's Most Powerful Model in Cybersecurity

Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon – a more powerful version of the model, which will initially cost the same as its predecessor. This was reported by Koray Kavukcuoglu, Senior Vice President of Google DeepMind and Chief Architect of AI at Google. According to him, Carbon is the company's strongest model, especially in cybersecurity and long-term tasks.
The model was released two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon. Initially, Carbon costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens – like Argon, during an unspecified introductory period. Then the price will rise to $4 and $20. This corresponds to the rates of Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5, which Google considers a competitor to Carbon.
Carbon took first place in SEC-bench Pro, ExploitGym, and CWE-bench, and in WebDev Arena, it ranked fourth, behind Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Astra, and Sonnet 5.5. In the Arena ai Best Overall Agent ranking, the model ranks second after Opus 5.5. According to Artificial Analysis, Carbon topped the new Intelligence Index v5 and took second place in the Coding Agent Index.
Kavukcuoglu specifically highlighted cybersecurity. The model will be available this week to an unspecified group of security specialists, later more widely through the Fairwind program. “In internal tests, Carbon more than doubled the success rate of generating secure code compared to Argon,” he wrote. “The Chrome team reported that Carbon exceeded a major frontier model from another lab by more than 10 times in generating quality patches.”
“Gemini 4 Argon and Carbon are now leading the forefront,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet. “The company's proprietary model APIs now process nearly 32 billion tokens per minute, more than four times what they did a year ago.”
Google is already ahead of Anthropic and OpenAI in revenue. Emarketer analyst Nate Elliott noted that Google “boasted a figure of half a trillion dollars – almost ten times more than OpenAI or Anthropic.” Carbon will be released this week for a limited group of cybersecurity specialists; the company intends to make the model more widely available “as soon as possible.”
