Google is developing a specialized Frozen v2 chip with integrated Gemini architecture

Google plans to release a specialized processor codenamed Frozen v2. According to the authoritative publication The Information, the new chip integrates elements of the Gemini architecture directly into the silicon structure. This engineering solution will significantly reduce the number of calculations. It will also reduce the amount of data required to process user requests. The project is intended as an important addition to the existing line of tensor processors. It is not a complete replacement for them, but serves specific operational tasks. The development should also help alleviate the acute shortage of computing power. Due to a lack of resources, the company's cloud division had previously rejected some transactions with external clients.
According to internal estimates by Google engineers, the new device will demonstrate outstanding efficiency. It will be able to process from six to ten times as many tokens per unit of energy consumed. This indicator significantly exceeds the capabilities of the company's latest AI accelerators. However, the chip will be able to work with future versions of Gemini models only if the basic architecture is preserved. So far, the technology giant considers Frozen v2 mainly as an experimental project. The company does not plan to produce it on the same industrial scale as universal tensor processors. The introduction of a specialized chip into full-fledged commercial operation is tentatively scheduled for 2028.
The market reacted positively to the publication of these technical plans. On July 20th, shares of Alphabet's parent company rose by one and a half percent. Nevertheless, the corporation's artificial intelligence business has been experiencing some difficulties in recent months. The launch of the expected release of the Gemini 3.5 Pro model has been delayed. Against this background, the company lost four leading researchers who moved to direct competitors. At the same time, Chinese developments are strengthening their positions, processing up to forty-six percent of requests from American firms.
