Hanwha Develops Tokenized Securities Platform on Avalanche Blockchain

According to Seoul Economic Daily, South Korean brokerage firm Hanwha Investment & Securities has completed the development of a platform for tokenized securities that supports Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu blockchains. The project was implemented in collaboration with blockchain company FairSquare Lab. The launch of the platform comes amid upcoming legislative changes in South Korea: amendments that officially recognize distributed ledgers as securities registries will come into effect on February 4, 2027.

The regulator – the Financial Services Commission (FSC) – has already presented a three-phase implementation plan. In the first phase, tokenization of private money market funds, bonds, unlisted stocks through a trust structure, as well as equity investment securities will be permitted. Subsequently, tokenization will be extended to all publicly offered securities, and then a blockchain payment infrastructure using stablecoins will be created.

Hanwha is consistently expanding its presence in the tokenization sphere. Previously, the group acquired 9.6% of Securitize shares through three subsidiaries, becoming its largest shareholder. In July 2026, Hanwha Investment & Securities invested 30 billion won (approximately $22.3 million) in Digital Asset, the operator of the Canton Network. The company also increased its stake in exchange operator Upbit – Dunamu – to 9.84%, investing 597.8 billion won.
