IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said on CNBC that investments in the field of quantum computing will begin to have a noticeable positive impact on the company's financial performance in 2028 or 2029. The top manager estimated the potential cumulative economic effect of the introduction of this technology by the end of the 2030s at one trillion dollars of value created. This assessment is based on recent joint research by IBM with Qedma and Algorithmiq, the results of which demonstrate the ability of quantum systems to efficiently solve specific computational tasks and independently verify the results obtained, surpassing the capabilities of leading classical supercomputers.

The IBM executive emphasized that the new system has already allowed researchers to identify the behavior of materials that previously remained inaccessible to observation using traditional methods. The potential application effects of this technology include the development of advanced batteries, the creation of innovative materials, solutions for thermonuclear energy and the development of new pharmaceuticals. At the same time, Krishna acknowledged that the pace of commercialization of quantum computing remains a matter of debate due to the high level of hardware errors, technical complexity and scaling issues, although the company is already recording significant progress towards their practical application.

In May of this year, IBM announced plans to create a specialized quantum chip manufacturing facility, the project of which will receive one billion dollars of support from the US Department of Commerce under the CHIPS program, as well as additional investments by the corporation itself in a similar amount. Separately, the head of the company commented on the recent volatility in the market: after the publication of quarterly reports, IBM shares declined by twenty-five percent, which was caused by the temporary postponement of some capital projects by customers. Krishna clarified that these deals have not been canceled, but only postponed, and about forty percent of them have already been successfully closed over the next three to four weeks.
