The Italian startup Generative Bionics has officially unveiled the humanoid robot Gene.01, equipped with an innovative full-bodied tactile coating. The presentation of the platform took place at the AMD Advancing AI 2026 exhibition, while the developers noted that the prototype took only six months to assemble. A key element of the design was a distributed sensory "skin" capable of detecting touch, temperature changes, proximity of objects and the force of impact. According to the creators, such an architecture of physical artificial intelligence significantly increases the security of collaboration: the robot is able to take into account the presence of a person even before physical contact and instantly adjust its behavior during interaction.

The presence of force sensors opens up new scenarios for learning through demonstration, allowing the robot to memorize not only the trajectory of movements, but also the required physical effort, for example, the degree of object retention. Daniele Pucci, CEO of the company, emphasized that this development is the first embodiment of a concept where physical intelligence is initially designed taking into account the laws of physics and the specifics of human interaction. The platform is based on ergoCub's human-aware methodology, developed at the Italian Institute of Technology for safe physical and emotional contact. To accelerate the development of the ecosystem, developers have already been given open access to the robot model and its digital twin through specialized software platforms.

The basic platform offers three levels of customization, including the adaptation of artificial intelligence algorithms, exterior design, and actuators such as hands and feet. The company does not position Gene.01 as a universal humanoid, making a strategic bet on deep adaptation to specific industrial tasks. The startup is developing the first commercial configuration together with Fincantieri Corporation for operation in difficult conditions of shipyards, in particular, as a welding assistant. Generative Bionics, a spin-off structure of the Italian Institute of Technology, has previously successfully attracted significant investments to scale its technological solutions.
