The Japanese authorities of Shizuoka Prefecture approved the resumption of construction of the world’s longest line for trains on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen magnetic cushion between Tokyo and Nagoya. Governor Yasutomo Suzuki called this decision a "turning point": the project has been on hold since 2017 due to opposition from former Governor Hatta Kawakatsu, who feared a decline in water levels in the Oi River - a key source for irrigation of rice fields and tea plantations in the region.

Construction will resume within a year. The 286 km line is scheduled to be completed by 2036. The initial launch of the Tokyo-Nagoya section was planned for 2027, with extension to Osaka (total length 438 km) scheduled for a later date. The Japanese railway company JR Tokai allocated about 9 trillion (~$56 billion) for the project.
