Kevin Hassett Disclosed Ownership of Coinbase Shares Worth Up to $5 Million

White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett revealed that at the end of 2025, he owned shares of Coinbase in the range of $1 to $5 million. This disclosure came at a time when the Trump administration was promoting policies affecting the U.S. crypto industry. The information about his share ownership does not confirm whether he still holds these shares. Hassett advised Coinbase until January 2025, when he took office at the White House. Reports indicate that he received over $50,000 as compensation for his advisory work at Coinbase.

The disclosure forms do not specify the number of shares Hassett owned, nor the exact value of his investments. Since the document only covers assets as of the end of 2025, it does not establish whether Hassett maintained, reduced, or sold his investments in 2026. Hassett told CNBC that he avoided questions related to cryptocurrencies after consulting with government ethics officials. In response to criticism, his office emphasized that he has always fully complied with all ethical requirements.

Hassett's investments have attracted attention because the National Economic Council (NEC) played a central role in coordinating the economic policy of the administration, including decisions affecting companies in the digital asset space. As part of the group established by presidential directive, issues regarding cryptocurrency regulation, rules for stablecoins, and access to banking services were discussed. The amount of assets owned by Hassett, according to a former SEC ethics lawyer, could represent a "significant conflict of interest," making it difficult to separate his financial interests from his role in shaping policy regarding the crypto industry.
