Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl has highlighted a significant shift in the market relationships of the leading cryptocurrency. According to published data, over the past ninety days, Bitcoin's correlation coefficient with the technology sector index has declined from 60 to 33 percent, while its relationship with gold has risen from near-zero levels at the start of the year to more than 50 percent. In the expert's view, such changes indicate that market participants are once again beginning to regard the digital asset as a safe-haven instrument.
Zach Pandl explained that the observed shift may reflect a return of investor interest in the fundamental properties of the leading cryptocurrency, including its limited supply, financial autonomy, and practical utility as a store of purchasing power. The Grayscale representative also pointed to the macroeconomic context: the United States national debt has exceeded $40 trillion, and the combination of a growing budget deficit and rising bond yields is stimulating demand for instruments capable of protecting capital from the devaluation of national currencies. The company described this trend as the formation of a favorable backdrop for investment in assets protected against monetary inflation.
In Zach Pandl's assessment, under current economic conditions Bitcoin has the potential to become a highly liquid alternative to traditional safe-haven instruments such as precious metals. The expert noted that the network protocol provides for a strictly capped issuance of 21 million coins with a transparent emission schedule that is independent of decisions made by central issuers. These characteristics create a predictable monetary policy that contrasts with the flexible approaches of traditional financial institutions.
A similar position was expressed by Fidelity Global Macro Director Jurrien Timmer. The specialist linked the simultaneous strengthening of gold and the leading cryptocurrency to actions by the U.S. Treasury to buy back long-term debt obligations and increase the issuance of short-term securities. According to the Fidelity representative, the market is sensing a gradual shift toward fiscal policy dominance over monetary policy, which creates risks for the independence of the central bank.
