The L2-network Base team has announced the launch of the Beryl update on the main network, which will take place on 25 June. The key innovation will be the B20 token standard, whose logic is embedded directly in the node code, which will ensure faster and cheaper asset creation. The B20 is fully compatible with the ERC-20, and developers will get ready-made templates for stablecoins and conventional tokens at a start, and in the future they can pay for gas themselves and double the network’s capacity.

The upgrade will also significantly optimize infrastructure performance and interaction with Ethereum. Thanks to the implementation of the Multiproofs evidence system, the withdrawal time from Base to the main network will be reduced from seven to five days. In addition, the upgrade will bring a client named Reth V2, which will reduce disk space requirements for nodes and significantly speed up block processing.

This is not the last major ecosystem change this year: in September, Base plans to activate an upgrade to Cobalt, which will implement native abstraction of accounts. Earlier in May, the network had already integrated ZK-evidence from Succinct Labs to improve security and speed up transaction finalization while continuing its steady technical development.
