Mark Zuckerberg: Meta wanted to make Instagram useful rather than addictive

Mark Zuckerberg personally appeared in the Los Angeles court on a case of social media addiction. She claims that as a child she suffered from the addictive functions of Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok. TikTok and Snap settled claims before the process, and Meta decided to defend itself.
During the interrogation, Zuckerberg was shown internal documents where improving engagement was the company’s goal. However, he insisted that Meta had deliberately shifted the focus to "utility". "If something is valuable, people will use it more," explained the head of Meta.
This is one of the first trials where Meta has been accused of harming children. The defense disputes whether social media use is clinician. The outcome of the case could set an important precedent for the entire industry.
