MediaMarktSaturn Removes Ledger Products Due to Counterfeit Reports

MediaMarktSaturn, the company managing the European retail chain MediaMarkt, has decided to remove Ledger products from its stores and online platforms following reports of counterfeit hardware wallets. A MediaMarktSaturn representative stated in a letter, "The MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group is removing all products from the manufacturer from its stores and online platforms and is in contact with the manufacturer. We take this incident very seriously."

A user on X named Johannes reported on Monday that he purchased two Ledger wallets from different MediaMarkt stores, both of which contained unauthorized cables and communication modules. Security issues arose on Friday when Ledger announced it was investigating reports of losses related to devices sold through the Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. Ledger also reported that implants were transmitting users' recovery phrases over cellular networks and that they are investigating reports beyond CryptoBilis.

Separately, former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles reported on Tuesday that a Ledger Flex wallet purchased at Singapore airport contained a spy implant. Ledger responded by recommending users review its latest investigation report on CryptoBilis, without directly commenting on the Singapore case. Cointelegraph reached out to Ledger to find out if they have confirmed any counterfeit devices in Europe, but no response was received at the time of publication.
