The LAPTOP meme token launched by Hunter Biden on the Base blockchain fell approximately 99% from its peak price in the first hours of trading. According to Arkham analysts, the token reached a peak value of $190.81 just two minutes after trading began at 8:02 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday, then crashed to $4.77 within an hour. CryptoPotato reports slightly different figures: a peak of $199.51 and a drop to $1.61. The token was named after the notorious laptop that came to prominence during the 2020 presidential campaign. At the time of the data, the token's value was down 99.2% from its intraday high.
In the token's distribution structure, 20% is allocated for airdrops to holders of the TRUMP cryptocurrency who lost money on that token, to Substack subscribers, and to contacts of videojournalist Andrew Callaghan. Another 30% has been allocated to founders with a six-month lock-up and an approximately two-year vesting period. At launch, 35% of the total supply of one billion tokens was unlocked, with the remainder set to be released over 36 months according to established schedules. Cryptographer Coffeezilla (Steven Findeisen) warned his audience not to buy the token before its launch. In addition, more than a dozen fake LAPTOP coins appeared almost immediately on the Solana, BNB Chain, and TON blockchains, trading at a combined volume of approximately $6.9 million.
According to Arkham data, at the token's peak value, the fully diluted valuation reached $144 billion, while liquidity in the pool was just $48,000 — creating ideal conditions for a collapse. One wallet withdrew $249,800 from Binance before the launch, bought 9,124 LAPTOP tokens, and then sold most of the position for approximately $1.18 million. Another trader spent around $200,000 to purchase 919 LAPTOP tokens at approximately $218 per token, but within an hour the position was worth less than $3,000.
The LAPTOP story repeated a scenario familiar from other political meme tokens. Donald Trump's TRUMP token fell approximately 97% from its peak of around $75, set at launch in January 2025, and is currently trading near $2.24. According to Public Citizen, Trump-related crypto projects have left investors with losses of more than $4.7 billion, of which $3.2 billion is attributed to the TRUMP token itself. Hunter Biden himself commented on the LAPTOP launch with a quote on X: "They turned the laptop into a weapon. I turned it into a symbol." Despite the first-day crash, the token still held a market capitalization of approximately $780 million at a price of $1.97, remaining in the top 100 crypto assets, though its long-term prospects remain uncertain.
