Meta introduced Muse — a personal AI agent designed for use by billions of people worldwide. The company announced the product on September 8 in a blog post, stating that the agent requires no technical skills and can work right out of the box. Muse is available in the Muse app and via WhatsApp, allowing users to interact with it like an ordinary person by giving instructions to complete various tasks.
The personal agent runs on the Muse Spark model and launches on the secure Muse Secure VM virtual machine, which stores both the agent's data and the user's information. Muse can send emails, book travel, create personalized plans, open a browser, fill out online forms, and negotiate on behalf of the user. The agent can continue working after the app is closed and return when changes occur or when user approval is needed to send an email or make a purchase. Integration with Stripe's Link payment system allows Muse to check out at online stores.
The basic Muse tier is free but requires linking a bank card. Expanded capabilities are available through paid subscriptions: Power at $20 per month and Maximum at $100 per month. According to PYMNTS, Muse is beginning to roll out in the US on iOS, Android, and the muse.ai website, and the company plans to add the agent to AR glasses.
The launch of Muse is part of Meta's multi-billion-dollar AI strategy and an attempt to close the gap with competitors such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. In April, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called personal superintelligence the company's primary development goal on a quarterly investor call. Earlier, in May, it was reported that Meta was working on a consumer AI assistant that would be easier to use than competing solutions. The company positions personal superintelligence as one of the most transformative technologies of the century, and views Muse as a first step toward expanding human capabilities by delegating routine work to artificial intelligence.
