Microsoft Corporation has presented financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, at the same time reporting a significant increase in the popularity of its own artificial intelligence platform Microsoft 365 Copilot. According to published data, the number of paid corporate users of the service exceeded the 30 million mark, while a quarter earlier this figure was about 20 million. At the same time, the company reported that the annual revenue of the Azure cloud platform exceeded $100 billion for the first time, and the segment's growth rate was 43 percent year-on-year. Microsoft management attributes this dynamic to the continued introduction of generative artificial intelligence into corporate workflows, where intelligent assistants are gradually becoming a standard tool for document preparation, data analysis, programming, and automation of routine operations.
Microsoft notes that today Copilot is used not only inside Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams applications, but is also becoming a universal platform for creating specialized AI agents capable of performing complex sequences of tasks with little or no human involvement. Corporate clients actively integrate the system into their own information infrastructures, using large language models for processing internal documents, preparing analytical reports, searching information in corporate knowledge bases and interacting with clients. At the same time, the company continues to develop its own computing infrastructure, expanding its network of data centers and introducing specialized artificial intelligence accelerators. According to Microsoft management, the large-scale investments are aimed at ensuring sufficient performance to further increase demand for cloud AI services and support new generations of intelligent models.
The presented results confirm that generative artificial intelligence is gradually moving from the stage of experimental projects to the category of mass corporate products. For Microsoft, this means expanding the ecosystem of cloud services and strengthening its position in the enterprise software market, where competition between the largest AI developers is becoming more intense. Analysts note that the high speed of Copilot distribution demonstrates the willingness of businesses to invest in tools to increase productivity, despite significant capital expenditures by technology providers themselves on the construction of new data centers and the development of specialized computing infrastructure. Microsoft's chief financial officer confirmed that the company maintains plans for capital investments of $190 billion in calendar year 2026. This amount includes about $25 billion related to rising component prices. The previously announced figure of $175 billion is the result of accounting adjustments and does not reflect an actual reduction in investment plans. The growth of the user base also indicates that artificial intelligence is gradually becoming one of the key elements of the modern digital transformation of enterprises around the world.
