At the Build 2026 conference, Microsoft announced Project Solara - a platform for creating AI-based devices that work on corporate Android Forks (MDEP). As a demonstration, the company presented two reference gadgets: a smart display with Microsoft 365 integration and a mobile smartphone badge with 5G support and camera.

The platform is enterprise-oriented, providing a high level of security and manageability. It supports an adaptive "just-in-time UI" interface, which is generated over the air, and does not impose a single AI agent, allowing users to choose the tools they need. Hardware partners were Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Microsoft believes that the industry is shifting from classic applications to AI agents. In the coming months, pilot testing of devices based on Project Solara will start large retail networks Target, CVS Health and Best Buy.
