The American corporation Microsoft plans to invest approximately $10 billion in the development of data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Japan by 2029. The project aims to strengthen local data processing and meet the growing demand for technological sovereignty.
The company intends to implement this initiative in partnership with SoftBank Group and Sakura Internet Inc. This collaboration will create a national data storage and processing infrastructure integrated with the Azure cloud platform, enabling data processing within the country.
The project development includes the expansion of data centers in eastern and western Japan using modern equipment for working with AI and complex computing tasks. The infrastructure is expected to support autonomous systems and large-scale digital services.
A separate focus is personnel training and technology development. Jointly with Japanese companies, including Hitachi, the plan is to train up to 1 million developers by 2030, as well as strengthen cooperation with government agencies in the field of cybersecurity.
