A Monument to Satoshi Nakamoto Unveiled in Buenos Aires

In Buenos Aires on October 29, a monument to Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin whose identity remains unknown, was unveiled. The work, titled "Genesis Satoshi Nakamoto," is a three-dimensional cube with a width, length, and height of 2.4 meters each. Its unveiling took place at Polo Dot during the Open Fest of the LABITCONF 2026 festival. The project was implemented by the organization Bitcoin.ar following the fifth Premio B·Arte competition.
The monument is made of stainless steel and glass. Its creators are engineer Ricardo Alonso and architect Celeste Difabio Videla from Bariloche. The production and installation were coordinated by Aida Pippo, an artist and board member of Bitcoin.ar. The opening ceremony was attended by Bitcoin.ar and LABITCONF co-founder Rodolfo Andragnes, with musical accompaniment provided by the group Mayumaná.
The five faces of the cube reveal different aspects of the history and structure of Bitcoin. One side is dedicated to the anonymity of Satoshi Nakamoto and the international community that has allowed the technology to continue developing. Another illustrates Bitcoin's limited issuance: the sequential halving of the cube refers to the halving mechanism, which reduces miners' rewards approximately every four years. The issuance is capped at 21 million BTC.
The monument also features the opening lines of the Bitcoin white paper, published on October 31, 2008, and elements of the genesis block—the first block of the network, created on January 3, 2009. Among them is the headline from The Times newspaper, included by Satoshi in the block's data. On the top face are the phrases "Don't trust, verify" and "Vires in numeris" ("Strength in numbers"), reflecting the principles of independent verification and cryptographic security.
Organizers hope that the monument will become a public and educational space for schools, universities, families, and tourists. The project was funded by Fundación Bitcoin Iberoamérica. Its creators view the work as a way to introduce the history and principles of Bitcoin not only to members of the crypto community but also to those who are not yet familiar with this technology.
