Streaming giant Netflix has officially completed the purchase of an artificial intelligence startup called InterPositive. The deal was worth about $587 million, according to official reports to the Securities Commission. The founder of this promising project was the famous Hollywood actor and producer Ben Affleck. As part of the agreement reached, he assumed the honorary position of Senior Advisor to the company. Together with him, a close-knit team of 16 specialists joined the staff of the streaming service. It consists of experienced developers, scientific researchers and creative professionals. Affleck himself noted that technology has always developed in parallel with the artists who use it.
The InterPositive project, launched back in 2022, offers innovative tools for the modern film industry. The platform allows you to train large language models directly on the captured video. This significantly speeds up the complex stages of postproduction, including fine sound mixing. The technology also optimizes working with light in the frame and adding visual effects. Previously, the startup successfully participated in the creation of commercial videos for major global brands. In addition, the team developed advanced solutions for music videos and other large-scale video projects.
Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, shared impressive statistics on the use of new technologies. According to him, about 300 service projects already used generative artificial intelligence in 2026. Sarandos cited the documentary series The American Experiment as a prime example. The introduction of algorithms made it possible to create this picture twice as fast and much cheaper. At the same time, the management emphasizes that it does not seek to completely replace human labor with machines. It is worth noting that in May, the organization awarding the Academy Awards banned the nomination of films created with the help of AI.
