New York Life Investment Management, together with Centrifuge, is tokenizing a high-yield corporate bond strategy. The official announcement was made on September 17. The product will be created on the Avalanche platform with the ability to subscribe and redeem in USDC for qualified institutional investors.
The main idea is not to transform high-yield bonds into a retail cryptocurrency product. Centrifuge provides the tokenization infrastructure for the institutional investment strategy managed by NYLIM, which oversees assets of more than $300 billion. The use of Avalanche ensures blockchain-level settlement and asset ownership, while USDC provides a digital dollar mechanism for subscriptions and redemptions. The application of these technologies can significantly simplify some operations between cash and fund interests, especially as tokenized products begin to operate outside traditional settlement windows.
The product will not be available to the general public. Access is limited to qualified institutional buyers, which is an important limitation for assessing the reach of tokenization. This event highlights that tokenized treasury products have already become one of the prominent areas of institutional adoption of blockchain, while high-yield corporate bonds bring a different risk and return profile to this same infrastructure trend. Together with Centrifuge, the story of tokenization moves further into actively managed credit strategies rather than remaining focused solely on treasury products.
