OpenAI is developing its first consumer device, a portable smart speaker without a screen. According to Bloomberg, the product is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2027, with an estimated cost of $300 to $400. The project is being implemented jointly with the team of former Apple chief designer Joni Ive.

The device will have a shape resembling a ring or a hockey puck, and is equipped with a battery for autonomous use. Instead of a screen, the speaker will receive cameras, microphones, speakers, backlight elements and mechanical components capable of responding to user interaction.

The functionality of the device will be integrated with the ChatGPT capabilities. It is expected that it will be able to respond to queries, play media content, work with messages and manage smart home systems. The presence of cameras and sensors will allow the system to take into account the context of the environment. OpenAI considers this product not as a traditional speaker, but as a new type of computer focused on interaction with artificial intelligence. At the moment, the official name, exact price and start date of sales have not been announced.
