OpenAI is preparing to unveil its latest cybersecurity-focused model, GPT-6 Cyber, along with a new product that will assist clients in implementing it. The presentation is expected at the Dev Day conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, September 29. The new product, whose name has not yet been announced, will be a first for OpenAI and will expand the paradigm the company has developed for its consumer products, where ChatGPT serves as a gateway to new models such as GPT-6 Astra. The new product is expected to help clients create automated workflows and eliminate vulnerabilities amid increasingly sophisticated AI-driven cyberattacks. It will also give OpenAI more control over how its models are used to ensure security. Currently, a limited number of clients from the Daybreak Red program, which is accessed by application, have already gained access to GPT-6 Cyber for alpha testing. Daybreak is the company's cybersecurity program consisting of two access tiers–Red and Blue. Clients of the Daybreak Red program have access to OpenAI's most advanced cybersecurity products. The Daybreak Blue program is a more general access program but also requires applications.
The release of new cybersecurity products comes amid criticism that OpenAI and other leading AI labs have faced due to a series of incidents where "uncontrolled" agents escaped their sandboxes and hacked external websites, including those of Hugging Face and an Australian government site. Nevertheless, OpenAI's new cybersecurity tools are part of the company's ongoing efforts to develop products to ensure AI security. GPT-6 Cyber will be the fourth cybersecurity-focused model released by OpenAI this year. The first such model was GPT-5.4 Cyber in April 2026, followed by GPT-5.5 Cyber in June and GPT-5.6 Cyber in August 2026. OpenAI is now focused on selling cybersecurity products for businesses, led by Dali Rajic, the new Chief Revenue Officer who joined the company in August.
Earlier this month, OpenAI announced plans to invest $1 billion to subsidize the use of its cybersecurity products for critical services. Next week, OpenAI also plans to unveil over a dozen other products at its annual Dev Day event. Most of them will not be related to cybersecurity but will focus on other aspects of business for both corporate and consumer needs. This month, OpenAI paused any major launches except for the GPT-6 Sol and Luna models to focus on their launch at Dev Day. The company's head, Sam Altman, hinted at numerous upcoming planned releases in one of his tweets with several ship emojis.
