The company OpenAI intends to integrate its AI-based video generation tool Sora into ChatGPT’s chat bot, The Information reports with reference to informed sources. This step is part of a strategy to expand the user base, although analysts warn about the potential increase in operating costs for the platform. Earlier, in 2025, Sora was launched as a separate mobile app allowing AI to be created and published in a format resembling TikTok.

Despite initial interest, by early 2026 the popularity of the standalone app had declined. According to a January report by TechCrunch, citing data from Appfigures, the number of Sora installations in January fell by 45% compared to the previous month, and user costs also dropped sharply. As a result, Sora left the top 100 apps on both the US App Store and the Google Play Store, facing declining audience engagement.

Previously, OpenAI had entered into a partnership agreement with the Walt Disney Company to create videos featuring the media giant’s characters, but this collaboration did not appear to have stopped the decline in interest.
