Pavel Durov, co-founder of the Telegram messenger, officially announced the launch of a new non-custodial Gram crypto wallet. According to the developer, this solution will be integrated directly into the application client, rather than working in the format of a third-party bot. The main goal of the project is to provide instant cryptocurrency transactions without fees for more than a billion active users of the platform. Such a large-scale implementation promises to be the largest ever introduction of decentralized financial instruments into the mass segment.
The choice of the name Gram is not accidental and refers to the historical roots of the project. Initially, this was the name of The Open Network native blockchain token in the first version of the technical documentation. After the regulatory difficulties arose, the founders transferred the management of the network to an independent community, but many technological developments were successfully integrated into the messenger ecosystem. The return to the historical name symbolizes the completion of a long stage of adaptation and the transition to a new phase of development of the company's digital assets.
The Wallet service existing in the messenger functions as a custodial solution where users do not own private keys directly. The new Gram Wallet product is likely to replace or complement the current non-custodial DeFi Account interface, providing full control over assets. Unlike previous initiatives developed by third-party organizations, this wallet is created directly by Telegram's internal team. This guarantees deeper technical integration and a high level of security for end users.
