On September 7, 2026, users of the Polkadot network began voting on a proposal to create its own stablecoin, named dotUSD. According to current data, 97.5% of voters support this proposal. A total of 2,343,074 DOT has been collected in the voting process, while the number of votes against stands at 59,896. A total of 1.67 billion DOT is participating in the electoral process. This initiative, put forward by the Polkadot Community Foundation, was presented on the OpenGov platform at 11:49 AM Eastern Time.
The proposal, named OpenGov Referendum 1944, is moving into the decision stage, where the DAO expresses its intention to implement dotUSD as the primary tool for ensuring stable value within the Polkadot ecosystem. The text document outlines seven key actions, including the creation of the dotUSD asset, opening a DOT-dotUSD liquidity pool on the Asset Hub, and establishing parameters for the peg stability module. Additionally, this project includes financial commitments: allocating $2.5 million in USDT for the creation of dotUSD and a similar amount in DOT for the initial funding of the liquidity pool.
According to the report, "dotUSD will be a decentralized project that will operate autonomously through the logic embedded in the blockchain.” Despite the active voting, there are no official product applications for this initiative in the U.S., and the only document mentioning Polkadot from September 1 to 8 is related to an ETF, where the name is mentioned in passing. Given the growing interest in creating its own asset, Polkadot demonstrates active participation in updating its platform and offerings for users, reflecting a commitment to further developing the ecosystem.
