The price of Starknet (STRK) token has increased by approximately 330% over four weeks, leading to a record influx of new wallets. According to analysts at Santiment, the number of new STRK wallets reached an all-time high of 1,166. This occurred when the token's value hit its local peak, indicating a fear of missing out (FOMO) among retail investors. Such behavior may cause a concentration of purchases near the price peak and increase the risk of a short-term correction.
In contrast to the activity of new market participants, the largest holders continued to accumulate tokens. The top 10 Starknet addresses currently hold about 7.09 billion STRK – this is the highest aggregate balance since April. Despite a decline in interest from retail investors, large holders continue to strengthen their positions.
Amid these developments, StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson raised the issue of Starknet's long-term security and the possibility of transitioning the network to layer one (L1) for cryptographic flexibility. He noted that two key factors must be considered: the potential quantum threat and rapidly evolving artificial intelligence. Ben-Sasson suggested that quantum computing could pose a threat sooner than expected and called for prompt action to prepare blockchains for future risks. Among the necessary steps, he highlighted three directions: using the right cryptography, cryptographic flexibility, and a possible transition to L1. In conclusion, Ben-Sasson expressed doubt about the feasibility of such a transition, not presenting it as a decision already made.
