Samsung and SK Hynix Drive Kospi Index Growth in South Korea

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have become the leaders in the growth of the South Korean Kospi index, which rose by 1.25% to 7,083.84 points on Tuesday, right after Labor Day. This index growth is a result of positive investor expectations related to the profits of companies operating in the field of artificial intelligence. Given the current state of global markets, rising concerns about inflation, and overall expectations of a negative opening for the stock market in the U.S., news of strong results from local companies has become one of the few bright spots on the financial scene.

Samsung Electronics increased its value by 1.48%, reaching 274,000 won, while SK Hynix demonstrated a more impressive growth of 3.65% to 1,848,000 won. Other companies in this sector also showed positive results: Korea Electric Power Co. gained 3.82%, and SK Innovation rose by 1.6%. Thus, investors are ramping up their bets that revenues in the artificial intelligence segment will continue to exceed expectations, making this sector special amid instability in other markets.

However, in a broader context, the U.S. stock market faced a tense opening as index futures began to decline after the holiday weekend. Dow Jones futures fell by 308 points, or 0.6%, while oil prices were noted to have risen, reaching a six-week high. Amid rising energy prices, traders are starting to price in the risk of a potential interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve. Thus, the South Korean stock market remains attractive despite overall warnings from economists about the state of the global economy and inflation risks.
