The Japanese SBI Corporation and the game developer Gumi have announced the launch of the SBI Crypto Fund on August 1, 2026. The initial capital of the organization will be three billion yen, which is equivalent to about eighteen million US dollars. Fifty-one percent of the fund belongs to the SBI Financial Services division, and forty-nine percent is controlled by Gumi gC Labs. The project also attracted investments from Daiwa Securities Group and a number of other local financial institutions. This indicates the growing institutional interest in digital assets in the modern Asian region.

The investment strategy of the new fund focuses on the acquisition of bitcoin and the largest altcoins. The organization plans to generate additional profitability through digital asset staking mechanisms. To minimize market risks, capital management provides for regular portfolio rebalancing. The fund will also use specialized hedging tools to protect against volatility. The partnership with Gumi looks logical, as the company has already accumulated a significant stock of XRP tokens. As of the end of April, the value of the game developer's crypto assets reached fourteen billion yen. This demonstrated a twofold increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

The creation of this fund takes place against the background of significant legislative changes in the financial system of Japan. In July, the country's parliament approved amendments to the Law on Financial Instruments and Exchanges. These regulations officially authorize the launch of cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds on the Tokyo Stock Exchange starting in 2028. This initiative reflects a broader macroeconomic trend towards institutional adoption of digital currencies. Earlier, the large corporate pension fund Nationwide Business Corporate Pension Fund announced plans to allocate one percent of assets for crypto investments. This fund serves about one thousand two hundred small and medium-sized businesses throughout the country.
