The second cryptocurrency will receive a stablecoin fee payment function

Ethereum developers have included the Frame Transactions proposal (EIP-8141) in the Hegota upgrade plan. The decision was made on August 27: the status has been changed to Scheduled for Inclusion. This means that the function is officially planned for implementation in the next major network update. According to the current plan, Hegota will take place in 2027 after the Glamsterdam update. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, one of the ten authors of EIP-8141, noted significant progress in the work on the proposal in recent months.

Currently, any transaction on Ethereum requires ETH to pay for gas. This creates inconvenience if the user has only stablecoins in their wallet: transferring USDT or USDC without ETH is impossible. Frame Transactions address this issue. The technology divides the transaction into stages: one is responsible for confirming the action by the user, another determines the fee payer, and the rest perform the operations. The sender's account and the fee payer's account no longer need to match.

For example, a payment application can pay the user's fee itself. Or the user pays the fee in stablecoins, and the service converts them and sends ETH to the network. The network still receives payment in ETH. Frame Transactions will also allow combining multiple actions into one operation and customizing confirmation rules. This will enable changing keys or wallet protection without transferring funds to a new address.

While EIP-8141 remains a draft, technical details may change. Frame Transactions are not available to regular users. Vitalik Buterin previously explained how the new transaction model helps Ethereum prepare for scaling.
