Solana has reduced the slot time to 350 milliseconds – for the first time since the network was launched, said Jacob Krik, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation. “We have entered a new era – 350 ms. The next stop is 300 ms,” Krik wrote in a Friday post on X.
The average slot time in Solana at the time of publication was 360 ms, compared to the network’s initial target of 400 ms, according to the slot time browser. In June, the Solana Foundation presented plans to reduce the slot time from 400 to 200 ms, stating that this would improve response speed and speed up confirmations in the blockchain network. Another 50 ms reduction is planned.
All 4 stages must be implemented in the main network with the release of Agave v4.2 – a validator client developed by Anza. At the same time, the schedule is preliminary. The SIMD-0525 proposal to reduce the slot time was approved and included in the code on May 14. Speeding up the network will allow the blockchain to process transactions with even lower latency, which is critically important for decentralized applications and trading platforms that require instant order execution.
