Spotify will introduce a system for recognizing music profiles created by neural networks

The Spotify streaming service is actively developing a new system for automatically identifying profiles that hide not real musicians, but neural networks. If the platform's algorithms suspect that the artist's name and image were completely generated by artificial intelligence, such an account will receive a special AI Persona mark. The main practical consequence for such profiles will be their automatic exclusion from personal recommendations and editorial collections. This step will deal a significant blow to the main music promotion channel, since it is algorithmic playlists that provide most of the listening experience for novice authors.

The appearance of this innovation was a natural reaction to the growing problem of AI spam, which has been bothering users over the past few years. Automatically generated tracks filled catalogs en masse and ended up in popular collections, gradually displacing compositions by real authors. Many listeners complained about the abundance of synthetic content and expressed a desire to listen to music created exclusively by humans. At the same time, Spotify management emphasizes that a special mark will not be assigned to all suspicious accounts in fully automatic mode. Each controversial profile will undergo mandatory manual verification by moderators to protect the real artists. Musicians who use neural networks only as an auxiliary tool in their work will not be subject to the new restrictions.

The new system is aimed exclusively against fully synthetic pseudonyms, and not against creative experiments with modern technologies. Performers whose profiles mistakenly receive the AI Persona mark will be able to easily challenge this decision through the support service. In addition, in the near future, users themselves will have a convenient opportunity to complain about suspicious accounts directly through the platform interface. These measures will help the streaming giant to clear catalogs of low-quality spam and maintain audience trust. Real authors will have a better chance to be heard in the face of increased competition with algorithms. The audio streaming industry is gradually forming new standards for interaction with generative artificial intelligence technologies.
