In August 2026, thirteen dormant Bitcoin wallets became active simultaneously. These addresses had remained inactive for twelve to fifteen years. Their owners resumed activity amid a significant surge in the value of the leading cryptocurrency. According to analytics firm Galaxy Research, approximately 818 Bitcoin were moved from these addresses. The market value of these coins at the time of the transactions exceeded sixty million dollars. Long-term investors realized potential profits worth millions of dollars. The multi-year appreciation of the underlying digital asset delivered enormous returns.
The largest single transfer involved 212 Bitcoin moved on August 18. That address had not been used for approximately fourteen years. At the time of the transaction, the coins were valued at roughly $13.66 million. The average cost basis of these assets was approximately twelve dollars per coin. On August 22, several old addresses became active at once, resulting in the movement of an additional 282.31 Bitcoin. Among them were 150 coins that had been held for nearly twelve years. The remaining 132.31 Bitcoin had been acquired by their owner back in 2011.
On August 29, another address executed a new transaction after more than fifteen years of inactivity. The owner moved ten Bitcoin to other addresses. At the time of the transfer, this amount was worth approximately $777,000. The original cost of these coins was estimated at around fifteen dollars. Other transfers took place between August 1 and August 18, with individual transaction amounts ranging from 8.54 to 49.97 Bitcoin. The holding period for these coins also spanned twelve to fifteen years. Realized profits recorded on individual addresses reached millions of dollars.
Analysts assessed the returns on specific long-term investments. The owner of forty Bitcoin moved them on August 26. These coins had remained untouched for more than fourteen years. The investor realized a profit of approximately $3.16 million. The transferred funds were sent to an address associated with Boerse Stuttgart Digital. Such transactions often indicate the sale of assets or their transfer to exchanges. Early cryptocurrency holders are locking in profits after many years of patient holding.
The reactivation of old addresses occurs on the market on a regular basis. In March of this year, a large holder moved 2,100 Bitcoin. At the time of the transaction, this holding was worth more than $147 million. Those coins had also remained dormant for approximately thirteen years. The return of early investors creates additional supply in the market. However, the overall volumes of moved funds remain negligible compared to daily trading activity. Long-term holders continue to be an important part of the leading cryptocurrency's ecosystem.
