Strategy has officially announced the creation of the Bitcoin Security Consortium, which brings together a number of large institutional investors and technology companies. The founders of the initiative include Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets and Galaxy. According to the organization's statement, the participants plan to allocate $15 million over three years to ensure the long-term security of the first cryptocurrency network. The main objectives of the consortium are to finance independent developers and researchers, as well as to inform the professional community about the current state of security of the blockchain infrastructure.

The primary focus of the new organization's activities is preparation for the long-term risks associated with the development of quantum computing. Strategy representatives stressed that at the current stage there are no quantum computers capable of creating an immediate vulnerability to the cryptographic algorithms of the network. Nevertheless, the development of post-quantum protection tools is considered an important strategic priority that requires early investments. At the same time, the consortium does not intend to interfere in the process of making changes to the basic protocol or act on behalf of its main developers, reserving for each participant the right to independently determine the direction of the allocation of funds.

The operational activities of the Bitcoin Security Consortium will be coordinated by Mike Schmidt, Executive director of the Brink organization, who participates in the initiative on a volunteer basis, while maintaining independence from participating companies. In the coming months, the consortium plans to publish a series of educational materials on security standards and continue to support the relevant community of developers. It is worth noting that this initiative is part of a broader industry trend: Galaxy has previously announced the launch of a similar program, allocating up to $ 5 million in grants for research in the field of post-quantum cryptography.
