This data breach occurred amid an increase in incidents related to leaks in the crypto industry. Last week, Revolut confirmed that it had shared personal customer data, including passports, driver's licenses, and transaction histories, with an unauthorized party that sent fraudulent requests from the domain of a legitimate government agency. Additionally, hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor warned of another data breach on a third-party marketing platform, leading to phishing attacks on customers.
Swiss Bitcoin Pay noted that “user funds are safe, and any amounts owed to users will be fully refunded.” In 2026, there has been a trend of increasing cyberattacks on data, as fraudsters obtain personal customer information through payment processors, as seen with the crypto wallet Ledger, and in a recent incident involving SafePal, where information on 39,798 customers was compromised.
