Taiwan market sets new record: Taiwan weighted index up more than 1.6%

Trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended Monday with strong gains. The Taiwan Weighted Index gained 1.61%, closing at a new all-time high. Support came from stocks in the glass, plastics, and cement industries.
Taiwan Glass Industry Corp. was among the top performers, rising nearly 10% to NT$47.05. Enlight Corp. gained nearly 9.9% to close at NT$22.80, while CviLux Corp. rose 9.83% to reach NT$109.50, setting a new all-time high.
Solytech Enterprise Corp. was among the worst performers, losing 10% to close at NT$10.80. PCL Technologies Inc. also declined, falling 9.71% to 125.50. Meanwhile, Bestec Power Electronics Co. Ltd. posted a significant gain of nearly 9.7%, closing at 21.35.
Commodity markets saw mixed performance. April WTI crude oil futures fell 1.11% to $65.74 per barrel. Brent crude contracts for May delivery fell 1.01% to $70.58. Gold, meanwhile, rose nearly 2% to $5,179 per troy ounce.
On the foreign exchange market, the USD/TWD pair fell approximately 0.23% to 31.44, while the TWD/CNY exchange rate remained virtually unchanged. The dollar index also declined, falling 0.31% to 97.42.
Thus, despite the correction in the oil market and the weakening dollar, the Taiwanese stock market demonstrated confident growth, consolidating the positive momentum of recent weeks.
