Telegram's slowdown has put mobile app releases at risk

Telegram is currently used as a key delivery channel for test builds—app versions that haven't yet been published in the App Store and Google Play but are being reviewed by testers and company employees. Telegram features project chats, bots for collecting feedback, and automatic notifications about the status of app releases in the stores.
Until 2022, developers used specialized solutions—Google's Firebase App Distribution, Microsoft's App Center, and the Apple Developer Enterprise Program. However, after restrictions were imposed by foreign companies, the Russian market was forced to seek alternatives. Telegram effectively became a temporary replacement for foreign services, especially for large companies with high testing and security requirements.
The possibility of a slowdown in Telegram became known on February 10. Telecom industry representatives confirmed a decline in the messenger's traffic. Roskomnadzor stated that it would continue to gradually restrict the service until Russian legislation was complied with. The agency points to noncompliance with personal data protection regulations, anti-fraud measures, and the criminal use of the platform.
