Tether Brings Together 15 Companies for Bitcoin Mining Automation

Fifteen companies and projects from the mining industry have supported the development of the Mining Development Kit (MDK) – an open toolset by Tether for managing Bitcoin mining infrastructure. Among the participants are ASIC equipment manufacturers Bitmain, Canaan, and MicroBT, operator Bitdeer, mining pools F2Pool, Foundry Digital, Luxor Technology, and OCEAN, as well as Proto division of Block. The initiative participants plan to develop and support software integrations that will allow their equipment and services to connect to a common interaction system. For this, special MDK Worker modules are provided. Each company will be able to independently determine which functions of their product to provide through the interface. This approach is designed to simplify the collaborative work of equipment and software solutions from different suppliers without the need to create a separate connection for each combination of systems.

Tether introduced MDK in April as a foundation for Mining OS and other applications managing mining infrastructure. The toolkit integrates interaction with computing devices, sensors, cooling systems, and electrical equipment. In large mining centers, thousands of devices of different models can operate simultaneously, connected to various pools and monitoring platforms. Without a common interface, developers have to separately adapt software to each component. MDK translates commands and data from connected systems into a unified format, allowing the creation of applications for equipment control and operation automation. Integration does not require a complete replacement of existing solutions: individual components can be connected through specialized modules, maintaining control over the devices and software systems used.

"We are entering a period where software will increasingly manage physical infrastructure rather than just report on its state," said Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.

A separate application area for MDK is related to artificial intelligence. The unified interface can be used not only for monitoring but also for developing AI agents capable of interacting with the physical infrastructure of a mining center. According to Tether, its agent QVAC is already operating through this toolkit, allowing it to access compatible systems without individual integration with each of them. MDK version 0.11 was presented at the Plan B forum in Lugano, held on October 23–24. The company plans to release a stable version 1.0 by the end of the year. The project's source code is open, allowing third-party developers to test compatibility, create their own modules, and expand the list of supported equipment.
