Texas man gets 45 years for stealing $300,000 worth of LEGO

Texas court sentenced 28-year-old Winston Lava to 45 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for participating in an interstate shoplifting operation. Among the stolen were more than 200 LEGO sets, as well as coffee makers, vacuum cleaners and PlayStation controllers totaling over $300,000.
Investigators found that Love had been committing armed robbery for 50 days in northern Texas and Oklahoma in 2025. He was detained in October 2025 after stealing over $1,200 worth of LEGO sets from the Target store in Wutaoga. During the search, he was seized of a car, over $5,000 in cash and narcotics.
The Tarrant County Attorney’s Office highlighted this as the first case to be reviewed under the updated Texas Organized Shoplifting Act, which came into effect on September 1, 2025. The harsh sentence reflects the authorities' determination to fight organized crime in the retail sector.
