The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has officially announced a significant achievement in the framework of the Agora pilot project aimed at modernizing global financial flows. In July 2026, the participants of this initiative successfully processed transactions totaling over 1 billion US dollars through a specialized blockchain platform for tokenized international settlements. Seven central banks and more than 40 leading financial institutions from around the world are actively involved in this large-scale pilot project, which clearly demonstrates the growing institutional interest in distributed ledgers in the field of interbank transactions and cross-border transfers.

The Agora platform demonstrates the high throughput and technological reliability required to process large volumes of financial flows in real time. The use of asset tokenization technology can significantly reduce the time for final settlements, minimize transaction costs, and significantly increase transaction transparency compared to outdated correspondent banking systems. The successful completion of the current testing phase confirms the practical viability of the concept of instant international payments using digital analogues of traditional fiat currencies.

According to official statements from the Bank for International Settlements, testing of the basic infrastructure will continue with an emphasis on complicating and diversifying use cases. The next key stage in the development of the project will be the integration and comprehensive verification of settlements using tokenized commercial bank deposits, as well as direct reserves of central banks. This evolution of the platform is aimed at creating a unified, high-speed and highly regulated ecosystem that can become a reliable foundation for the future global financial architecture of the next generation.
