Amazon Web Services (AWS), in partnership with Stripe and Coinbase, introduced Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments - a payment infrastructure that allows AI agents to self-pay for access to commercial data, APIs, MCP servers, and other agents while performing tasks. Initially, the service focused on micro-payments up to one dollar, where traditional bank cards are inefficient due to high fees, but in the future agents will be able to book tickets and make purchases on behalf of users.

The work mechanism involves connecting a wallet or payment provider to an agent with specified spending limits. AgentCore takes care of processing payment requests, confirming transactions and providing proof of payment without disrupting the logic of the network. Payments will be processed through stablecoins and open protocol x402 (development of the Coinbase zone), and as the micro-transactions are scaled up by the main financial settlement provider, Stripe will appear.

The launch of the platform makes AI agents its own low-budget employees, able to independently acquire necessary tools. For fintech companies, this opens up the market for new products such as specialized wallets and mistrading insurance, while traditional banks face a challenge to retain their role in new value chains, where an autonomous intermediary appears between the customer and the money.
